Commissioner Long Just Doesn't Get It

A resident who experiences the unacceptable noise levels blasting homes surrounding Smoky Mountain Event Center tries to reason with Commissioner Tommy Long, Chairman of the Event Center and Haywood County Commissioner:
"I (homeowner) explained how my wife and I have lived at this location for over 20 years and not had any significant problems until now.
The facts are the concerts significantly vibrate our home, with extreme sounds registering 85 to 90 decibels on my hand held device. This situation is effecting our physical and mental health. Our dogs are frighten, we can not perform important research work, we can not hear monitors installed for our health/safety, and routine telephone conversations with family members are hindered.
During the conversation, he (Commissioner Long) stated thousands seem to like the concerts. So I asked how his number was arrived at. Was it by attendees? If so, are attendees duplicated if the attend more than one concert? How many were from Haywood County? Why does anyone think this is for the betterment of Haywood County? If so, how does it benefit the local businesses, residents, or is it good just for the entrepreneurs hosting the events.
I asked did anyone consider the effect of these events may have on residents in a three mile radius? Probably not!
We are tax payers who deserve better than what is happening. It seems some Board members think as long as it does not effect them it is ok for us to experience this inconvenience.
The ideas expressed during this discussion were concerning such as aiming the stage in a different direction or building a sound proofing wall.
I believe we need to arise to the occasion and stand up for our inherit rights. We can not leave this to others who do not have any vested interest."
